Nmachi Jidenma currently works on the investment team at General Catalyst where she partners with exceptional founders to help build enduring companies. General Catalyst is a venture capital firm that invests in powerful, positive change that endures and backs ambitious founders who are building enduring companies, including Stripe, Airbnb, Snap, Canva, Grammarly, Instacart, Gusto, Livongo, Applied Intuition, Monzo, HubSpot, Anduril, Samsara, Deliveroo, Guild Education, Ethos and Warby Parker. The General Catalyst team leverages its broad experience to help founders build extraordinary companies from creation to IPO and beyond. Prior to General Catalyst, Nmachi was a Senior Director at Sequoia Capital.

Prior to Sequoia Capital, Nmachi served as global strategy and business development lead at WhatsApp Inc, the world’s leader in mobile messaging with over 2 billion monthly users. In this role, she led WhatsApp’s strategy and business development efforts to drive monetization and build an ecosystem of partners worldwide building AI/ML, customer service and commerce tools on the WhatsApp Business platform. In addition, she led strategic alliances with WhatsApp’s first set of business partners, developers and customers such as Netflix and Uber as well as partnerships with governments, nonprofits and United Nations agencies such as the World Health Organization to drive WhatsApp’s COVID-19 vaccine response and its long term usage for social good. These efforts positively impacted the lives of tens of millions of people worldwide. She also led global teams on the rollout of payments on WhatsApp as well as early WhatsApp Business monetization strategy initiatives spanning business model, pricing, infrastructure alliances and landscape assessments to help inform its M&A strategy.

Prior to WhatsApp, she led partnerships at Facebook with financial services industry leaders such as PayPal, Visa, American Express and MasterCard and drove adoption of Facebook payments products. Prior to Facebook, Nmachi drove global business development at PayPal for its billion dollar mobile disruptors portfolio where she launched the company into new verticals such as mobile marketplaces and cryptocurrencies through partnerships with innovative startups and companies like Coinbase and Houzz. Earlier in her career, Nmachi worked in a variety of roles spanning strategy, business development and investment banking at companies like JPMorgan.

Nmachi serves as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Goddy Jidenma Foundation and has served as a  director/mentor/advisor to early stage funds and startups and as an angel investor. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences and panels with appearances at Fortune Conferences, Techonomy, Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business, Money2020 etc. Her work/writing has been featured in a wide variety of publications such as CNN and Business Insider. She holds a Master’s in Applied Economics from Cornell University.
